Good advice on choosing a mentor from the AICD – choose someone you respect, is respected by others and who will be a good role model; choose someone who has a track record of helping others recognise and achieve their potential; don’t necessarily choose someone you know, like or feel comfortable with; choose a mentor with great communication skills – questioning AND listening; choose someone who is self-aware, has a sense of proportion, and a good sense of humour.
