McAleese on Peace

mary-mcaleese-1Let’s release ourselves from confrontation.  We can’t change the past but we can influence the future.  A cup of tea and a bun and a little generosity goes a very long way, and a soft word opens hearts whereas a bitter word closes them down.  This works at home, in the street, in the community, and politically – it just takes somebody to break the ice with a handshake, a hug or a kiss.” [Mary McAleese, Eighth President of Ireland, 1997-2011]

Maree Nutt on the Hub

Maree-NuttThe Hub began providing bookkeeping and financial reporting services to RESULTS International Australia in June 2013.  At that time, RESULTS processes and reports were over-complicated and difficult to understand.  Through the efforts of the Hub, RESULTS financial processes and reports have become more streamlined and more accurate.

The Hub has provided professional, reliable and timely advice on many issues and also assisted our charity to implement processes for improved financial management over the long term.  It’s very reassuring, and a great relief, to have The Hub providing these services to RESULTS.

Hawker on Directorship

862052-michael-hawkerWhen addressing an Australian Institute of Company Directors’ NSW Fellows Lunch in Sydney in October, Michael Hawker FAICD – Chairman of the George Institute for Global Health, the Australian Rugby Union and SANZAR (South African, New Zealand and Australian Rugby) listed five abilities that make a good director.  The ability to:

1. Focus on material issues and not “sweat the small things”
2. See the “big picture”
3. Deal with pressure from external sources
4. Influence effectively at the board table
5.  Respect alternative viewpoints.

What do you think?

Conrad on Motivation

Sean P. Conrad, Senior Product Analyst at Halogen SoftwareSean Conrad on www.octanner.com says “when it comes to employee motivation, once basic financial needs are met, autonomy, mastery, and purpose—not money—are better motivators of performance.
In many ways, motivation is a personal thing, driven by our individual life circumstances, personality, values, needs, etc.  Truly motivated people dig deep and find the motivation within themselves to carry on.

So where does that leave employers and managers? Is there anything we can do to motivate our employees to perform better?

Here are four often over-looked ways managers can support stronger employee motivation:

  1. Interact with your employees daily
  2. Empower employees to manage their own performance and development
  3. Personalize rewards and recognition
  4. Pay attention to the little things.

RESULTS – National Conference in Melbourne (19-20/Jul/2014)

results-logoRESULTS International Australia (RIA) is a secular not-for-profit non-partisan organisation committed to generating the public and political will to end global poverty.  It has been operating in Australia for 27 years and, along with sister organisations in several other countries, the New York Times has called it “the best kept secret in international development”.

Consider this – globally, 1 in 7 people live in extreme poverty; aid is dropping lower and lower on the list of our Government’s priorities; 1 in 4 people with HIV dies from Tuberculosis; and RESULTS is not happy about that.  This July, RESULTS activists from all over Australia and the World will be meeting in Melbourne to learn more about what a citizen can do to help change the world in the areas of Tuberculosis, Vaccinations, Nutrition, Education & Micro-finance.

The Conference is immediately before AIDS 2014 – the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV, as well as policy makers, persons living with HIV and other individuals committed to ending the pandemic.  So why don’t you join RESULTS and heklp change the world?  For more information about the Conferences, visit the RESULTS or the AIDS 2014 websites.
